ISRAEL NEEDS SUNDAYS! I love my life here, don’t get me wrong, but there isn’t enough ‘down time’ in this country. I am a very active person and I like to get involved in many things at the same time. I have always been like that. Always active on campus and within the community, but at least in Montreal I had a real weekend to sit back and relax with friends and NAP! Oh how I miss napping!
This year I am graduating from the IDC in Communications, working part time as an English tutor (because let’s face it, I need money!), working as a Research Assistant for my professor, I was accepted to two Fellowship programs (Stand With us Fellowships and Link Israel Fellowships) which takes up a lot of time between meetings and projects and trips, and of course writing for SDM! I love everything that I do, and I cannot imagine dropping anything from my list. BUT A GIRL NEEDS A BREAK! And let’s face it, the weekends here aren’t really a break because they start Thursday night, which here is considered like Saturday night. So it’s party night! Meaning I am out until 5 in the morning, after having been in school and work all day, sleep in Friday if I can, and hopefully don’t wake up hung over. Cook and clean for Shabbat. Everything here closes early, so buses stop running and malls and shops close a couple of hours before the Sabbath comes in, meaning everything is always rushed! Dinner with friends is then at 7 and goes on until all kinds of crazy hours of the morning! Saturdays are meant for getting schoolwork done or lying on the beach. Half the time we will go out Saturday nights, the other half is spent just hanging around until 3am. Go to sleep, and then wake up early Sunday to start my hectic week of meetings, projects, work, hanging out, presentations and if I can manage to fit it in, shopping, all over again! I am in desperate need of a Sunday here! One day off just isn’t enough!
