Spotlight on Israeli Culture presents

Artist: Dvora Barzilai

Barzilai’s Prayer series explores the Hebrew language in prayers, liturgy, songs, contemporary Hebrew proverbs and forgotten texts — brought to life through mixed media including gold leaf, tempra, sand, cement, ashes, oils and canvas.

Originally from Tel Aviv, Barzilai trained with several prominent Israeli artists throughout her early career. In 1992, she and her family moved to Vienna where her husband serves as the Chief Cantor at the Vienna City Temple.

Inspiration is drawn from her life as an observant Jew. Religion and Jewish tradition are at the centre of her work.

Dvora Barzilai exhibits her work and outdoor installations internationally, including Moscow, Romania, Bulgaria, and Austria.
