Renowned Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan has signed an exclusive deal with Israel’s ADD Content Agency aimed at developing Israeli formats.
Milchan, one of the top producers in the United States and owner of New Regency Productions, plans to create a sort of “content incubator” for Israeli creators.
ADD’s Head of Content Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein will be the sole representative for Milchan in Israel.
The Hollywood tycoon has previously helped produce such Israeli hit films as “Dizengoff 99.” He founded the media giant New Regency Enterprises in 1994, and produced such films as “Pretty Women,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” and “Fight Club.”
Milchan’s daughter Alexandra, as well as the company’s new president and CEO Brad Weston, and Adam Berkowitz, Co-Head of Television of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), will be working together with ADD agents to accompany the Israeli creators during the development stages.
“With the success of the TV series ‘Homeland’ and ‘In Treatment’ in the US, we’re excited to begin working with ADD Content. We consider the deal as a big step toward our return to the television business, and it will be gratifying that a large part of the productions at the content incubator with ADD will reach the movie and TV industry in the US,” Weston noted.
Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein said, “Our central objective is to bring the content of Israeli creators to the American audience. New Regency is the ideal partner for us to take this step. We’re talking about a win-win cooperation for both parties.”
Remember when rock bands were non-conformist rebels? Yeah, it was a long time ago. KISS, led by Israeli-born Gene Simmons, has shed its rebellious roots and is looking to get its white-painted faces marked by a new imprint — Angry Birds.
Angry Birds is that mobile game everybody seems to be playing on the subway, were you use a slingshot to fire birds at pigs. It costs 99 cents, so naturally most people use the free version and then get upset when they can’t play more levels.
Anyway, Gene Simmons told Industry Gamers that he wwants to take the already expanded KISS brand to the online gaming industry: “We’re talking with Angry Birds, KISS and Angry Birds, which will become a deal.”
Simmons uses a perfect branding opportunity he has already achieved – a KISS Hello Kitty: “So Hello Kitty is one of the biggest brands on planet Earth. Now there’s KISS Hello Kitty, which we’ve already launched in 90 countries.”
Am I the only person who is really excited about this? I was all ready to use Hello Kitty as a joke about what’s next, but I guess that they already did it.
The indie-rock band Izabo will represent Israel in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with its song “Time,” the Israel Broadcasting Authority announced on Tuesday. The competition will take place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on May 22.
Izabo was founded in 1989 by musician and musical producer Ran Shem-Tov, who provides vocals and guitar for the group. Its other members are Shem-Tov’s partner Shiri Hadar (keyboards ), Jonathan Levy (bass ) and Nir Mantzur (drums ).
The band sings in English, and it has made some inroads on the European music scene. Despite its 20-plus years in existence Izabo has released just two albums, “Fun Makers” (2003 ) and “Super Light” (2008 ). A third album is set for dual release soon by both the Israeli company Anova Music and the British label 100%.
“We were very surprised and happy to hear of the decision,” Shem-Tov said after the IBA announcement, adding, “We definitely intend to prepare and to give the performance of our lives.”
The representative to this year’s song contest was chosen by a committee rather than the traditional pre-Eurovision contest on Israel Television, for budgetary reasons.
“In the name of the committee I would like to congratulate Izabo and the song’s creators,” the chairman of the selection committee, Yaakov Naveh, said on Tuesday. “I have no doubt they will represent the broadcasting authority and the State of Israel with great honor.”
The composition of the committee remained confidential until after its members made their selection. In addition to Naveh it included IBA plenum member Yitzhak Sonnenschein, Channel 1 television Program Division head Rina Hachmon, Channel 1 Entertainment and Culture producer Tal Argaman, the musicians Nimrod Lev, Mira Awad, Gilad Segev and Roni Yedidia, the music editors of a number of popular-music radio stations, the head of Israel’s Eurovision song contest and a representative from the Education Ministry.
Shem-Tov produced the most recent album of Israel’s representative to the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, Harel Skaat.
Sources inside Bieber’s camp tell us, Bieber had just arrived and was getting into an SUV to leave the airport … when a photog ran in front of the car to take several shots.
We’re told the bodyguard asked the photog to get out of the way — but the guy refused, and persisted to take photographs.
At that point, we’re told the bodyguard tried to guide the photog to the sidewalk — and the guy took a swing at him.
That’s when the bodyguard ducked, and then knocked the photog out with one punch. We’re told the bodyguard then held the photog down until cops arrived.
We’re told the photog was detained — so far no word if it will turn into an arrest.
